Okay, so when I was in the trunk of the mustang, I noticed the glow in the dark release handle that is mandated in all cars incase of kidnapping. Isn’t having that sort of odd? I mean, if you are going to kidnap someone and you are being smart about it, wouldn’t you snip that cable before you did your thing?

Is it kidnapping or just general safety? I could probably think up some schlemiel scenarios where someone locks themselves in the trunk

Not everyone plans kidnappings so carefully. Its actually more for little kids who play in the trunk and lock themselves in with the keys. I can tell you that I would have loved that to be a feature when I was younger and my sister locked in the truck of a car for an hour.

Kids playing around and locking themselves in. That’s also why refrigerator and freezers no longer have latches.

This is why I always bring 6 rolls of duct tape with me on my kidnappings.

Interestingly, it seems to be only American kids who go around locking themselves in.

Buy a car elsewhere and it won’t usually have one of these.

The one that’s crazy to me is the Nissan Titan bed box things in the sides of the bed. They have those emergency releases when only the smallest baby could fit in there and wouldn’t be able to get in there themselves or have the intellectual capacity or dexterity to pull the emergency release...

Tarps and/or cheesecloth, my friend. Depends on level of drippiness somewhat.

I always take the cable out before I kidnap people. It’s how we get new writers.

I’ll have to test that when I’m in Germany later this year

Kidnapping? Not really, this if for situations where a time traveler comes back to the past (our present) to try and set things right so his mom and dad get together at the dance and he doesn’t cease to exists but gets locked in the trunk of a car by the goons of his past rival preventing him from playing the song that will get them to their first kiss. Without that release...things could get heavy.

It scares me that the U.S. had to mandate a release handle in case of kidnapping or someone getting stuck in the boot of the car. .

It’s more for the “im kidnapping on a whim” group, not the “i planned this ahead of time” group. The latter group is the dangerous one.

Totally unrelated, but would you mind climbing into my trunk?

It's 2016 and you're still transporting dead bodies instead of doing the deed right at the dump site? Dude, get with the times.

So does that mean you don’t do the interview process in Torch’s RV behind the McDonald’s off Exit 6 of the New Jersey Turnpike anymore?

What am I going to do with this DeLorean costume and 15 quarts of 15w40 now?

It’s a density thing, mostly. Cargo shift.

That probably has less to do with reason and more to do with the wording of the regulation. It probably says something along the lines of “any enclosed storage space” and might not have a size requirement, so Nissan had to do it anyway.

Most cars have the tie downs in the back. They're meant for cargo nets but you can reinforce them for rope tie downs.

Or at least it’s only American parents who demand that somebody else be held responsible.

Seems to me like you’re not putting enough confidence in your ability to pack a trunk to the brim. Enough internal load pressure and you don’t need rope one.
